August 16, 2003…

That day we put you in the casket
You had paid for long ago
Always ready for your death
You awaited its bittersweet approach

Then they did salute your wartime service
Grandmother screamed in fright
She was comforted by all of us,
Though it didn’t seem quite right

And now I see your burial bouquets,
My eyes so cloudy they’re no longer of use
Then I stop to pick up your favorite flower
So perfect; so much like you

Now Grandmother just sits at home
Not as active as before
She buried her reason to live
Her life doesn’t matter anymore

Is that why you haunt her house?
The one you two shared for many years
You raised four children within these walls
Now the three left fight back their tears

At least Grandma knows you’re with her
She says so everyday
And forever you’ll be with her
Until in peace you both do lay

Okay, so this is something I wrote yesterday at 3 in the morning...I couldn't sleep because I was thinkin' about my grandfather who passed away on August 16 a few years ago. (it was his birthday as well...He always was a very precise person) I never had the chance to tell him goodbye or that I loved him because my family didn't wake me up to go to the hospital, so I've always felt guilty and I've never been able to get it out of my system...Here's for trying...I don't like it that much, but it does also breifly mention my aunt who died of breast cancer as well...*sigh* another person I never got to say goodbye to...

And the latin means "rest in peace Grandfather"

I never got to say good bye to my grand father, any of us did, we had hope but it just wasn't enough, and when my mom called from the hospital I just couldn't believe it. I wish I had a second chance to say good bye and 'I love you'.

That's a very good poem, it really touches the heart of whoever reads it.
